Little Sioux River The Little Sioux carves a deep and scenic valley into a region that’s otherwise topographically challenged in the area around the Iowa Great Lakes. The result is a river meandering slowly between slopes covered in prairies, pastures, or woodlands. In some portions where the valley widens, agricultural row crops come right up to the banks, but there are also long segments of river with wilder character. As it moves toward Woodbury County, the Little Sioux edges near the Loess Hills, although where it actually comes through them to the Missouri River it becomes channelized and not of great interest to paddlers.
