Anyone besides John H interested in using this mode of enjoying a river?
If you want to learn how here is a place to start.
May 16, Saturday, Missouri Poling Clinic Times Beach, Route 66 State park, Times Beach, MO, Al Beletz, (314) 781-7221
Also see prior posting in outings and events.

Not my cup of tea but I enjoy watching.

I had been thinking about it then I was watching John H. one day. A few weeks later I tried paddling my 17' humpbacked Coleman(the only boat I have I can actually stand well in) on Walnut Creek behind my house and LOVED it. The sound the pole makes and the feeling it gives through the pole as you jab bottom, especially on a rocky bottom, is healing somehow. Still need to practice balance as I tipped and fell twice in about 30min! Rolling Eyes Very Happy

No way in hell I can make it for anything like this event, but I'll keep trying it out on the creek and later, try a larger stream, although I think a safe, non-deadly creek is the way to go. I'll never be a pro at it, but it IS fun and a GOOD workout. It's quieter than dipping blades!

Now.....if I can just get myself UP those shallow riffles while standing....awesome. I watch videos of guys doing this and they make it look easy...which it is NOT!
